Solar Panels

I would like to see solar panelling incorporated in residential sectors.?

Filed under: residential solar panels — admin @ 10:48 pm

Not only would this save money to the average house hold electricity bill. Solar panelling will pay for itself after 6 years meaning anything after that is profit. It has low maintenance costs, you can sell excess back to the grid, and also you save a lot off water compared to what hydro dams use. There would be a significant decline in water usage if governments implemented.

Your views people would it be a good idea?
hydro dams use on average 10tonnes off water annually to supply 50,000 homes with electricity. I have 2 houses fitted with paneling and even when its night we get a little form off conserved energy from panelling. The myth that you dont get any power while its dark is just that a myth, you do as refraction of light is still monient when dark. And the commercial sector would pay. But in doing this a lot off local government bylaws would be abolished.

i'm a firm believer in solar energy, so yes, i think propagation of the technology is a great idea.

unfortunately energy costs differ depending on where you live, so the 6-year time frame may not be accurate. in energy deprived areas like Hawaii and Japan, it's fairly widespread, which is great to see. i think the panels need to be more aesthetically pleasing (or at least not be as obtrusive) before they are more widely accepted.

Can roofs be entirely covered with solar panels to run the homes electricity? If so why don't they?

Filed under: solar panels for homes — admin @ 10:48 pm

It is so hot and usually sunny in Florida. Why can't we use this to our advantage?

No you can not cover your complete roof. You have to leave a min of 16 inches (30 inches in Florida) from the eve and 12 inches between the edges and the top and sides. This is because if you were to bring the solar array to the edge the wind could get under them and take them off your roof.

Second is the fact that in most areas the Electric Co. will only trade you kWh for kWh. Meaning any over production you give to them for free. So it is a not profitable to over produce.

Now as far as the cost of the system goes. No matter how low the cost of your electric. Putting a solar electric system on your home will still save you more dollars then most people can understand. People don't understand they are renting electric when they could own it. It is just like renting a home. When you rent your home in the end you still have nothing. You can't sell it and get your money back because you was renting. If you own your home and you own and you own the Electric Co. (solar electric system) you can move out and get all the money you spent on the home and on the solar electric system back. So that means you had free rent on your home for the last 5 or 10 years and the same for the solar electric system. Free electric and free rent is profit not loss. Plus you always sell for more then you paid right?

Google Tech Talks
March 28, 2007

ABSTRACT

The program aims to bring over 175kW of residential solar power to 50+ homes in the Mountain View, Los Altos, Menlo Park & Woodside communities. SolarCity is offering a substantial discount for homeowners and businesses who purchase solar through this program, giving it the possibilty of being one of the largest residential solar co-op purchases to date. The purpose of the talk is to inform googlers about the benefits and economics of solar, the technologies that SolarCity is using, and to learn about the co-op program itself. Similar public meetings have already been held for local residents, and have attracted a fair bit of local media attention,…

What percentage of rooftops in major cities have solar panels installed? Best estimate?

Filed under: residential solar panels — admin @ 12:31 am

Commercial and residential combined? Would the figure even be at 5% yet?

It varies substantiallyh by country. Germany and Spain do have 5%, and China is catching up.
The American South west is catching up, otherwise way below 5%.

One of the world’s best purchase offers for solar generated power is in Ontario, Canada, and yet installations are proceeding very slowly because of very long wait times for solar equipment.

Portable Solar Panels - What’s The Cost Of Solar Panels For Homes

Filed under: solar panels for homes — admin @ 12:31 am

I’m keen on buying or building a portable solar panel for my home to lower dependence on costly energy and reduce my electricity bills.

The cost of solar panels for homes ranges between $100-200 based on panel wattage and electrical output. For example, a 6.5 Watt portable solar panel costs $95-115, while a 9 Watt (12V) rollable solar charger costs about $180.

You can easily build a home solar panel for under $200. If you negotiate with your local hardware store, you can even get the components for under $100.
